BLACK GOLD HORSE FRONTS Horse leather is a by-product
of raising horses - no horses are raised just for their leather, so why
let it go to waste?
Horses yield good leather.
Fact is, the fibers that make up horse leather are packed tightly together,
so it usually doesn't wear out very fast at all.
These are horse fronts -
essentially from the hips forward, chromium tanned, drum dyed and struck
through
(dye penetrates all the
way through the leather) in black. Jet Black. 2-3 oz in thickness,
which is lightweight enough
for most home sewing machines.
This leather is available in three size ranges:
Large horse fronts (over

Here's an important note:
There will be holes in many of these hides. One over here, one over

Third
Quality White Deer Hides These are full white tail
deer hides, from right here in the USA.
Chrome tanned, dyed white
(dye penetrates all the way through the leather), top grain (not splits).
These measure about 7 square
feet in surface area per hide and are soft.
We're calling these third
quality because, well, they just flat out aren't nice enough to be called
second quality.
Yes, they're useful for
crafts, but the hides have holes, bad spots, rough areas, defects, abrasions,
cuts, bruises, and bad attitudes.
Expect to find bullet holes,
arrow holes, scratches, cuts, and even tire tread marks, we kid you not.
The leather is 3 oz (a little
under 1/16 of an inch)., Very, very soft.
Yes, these are rough but
each hide has a lot of useful leather.

This is USA deer leather.
Chrome tanned, dyed white
(dye penetrates all the way through the leather),
but they look a little off-white
to very light grayish in color.

from 1 to 3 oz (1/64" to a little under 1/16 of an inch).
Very, very soft. How
soft? Like an old t-shirt that you can't throw away because
it still has that stain
on it from that Kansas concert at the Hollywood Sportatorium. It's

Oil Tanned Sheep Hides Smooth or Bumpy What you've got here are
oil-tanned sheep hides in a natural light tan color.
These look like smoke tanned
deer, a nice yellowish tan color with a rustic feel.
Oil tanned leather is waterproof
to some extent, soft, and each hide is about 5 square feet in surface area.
Great for all types of Native
American crafts. These have not been corrected or improved by the
tannery at all -
each hide is the way it
came off the animal. Bug bites, scratches, some staining here and
there, etc.
We have two varieties - smooth
surface, or natural bumpy surface (this is Merino sheep), which is a little
wrinkly bumpy convoluted looking.
