SUEDE HIDES IN STOCK THIS WEEK:

Updated January 26, 2012

Suede leather is rough on both sides - and it's made that way on purpose.
This is great stuff to use for many garments, but we also sell a lot of it to customers who line boxes with it,
and also to our swing dancing and ballroom dancing customers, who use suede on the bottom of their shoes.
Suede allows some floor sliding, but not so much that you'll end up in the judges' laps.
Suede leather for shoe soles.  Suede leather for garments.  Suede leather for lining boxes.
Here it is.

Pomona Suede Hides

This is nice, very soft but thick suede cowhide.  Hides run 4 oz in thickness (1/16") about 11 -12 sq ft each, roughly 2.5 ft wide by 4.5 ft long.  The color is a nice, soft brown that was named after Pamola,
a sprit being that's supposed to be watching over Mount Katahdin up here in Maine, which is good news if you're hiking the AT and, what?  Say again?  Oh, sorry, it's not Pamola.
OK, so this leather is named after one of those songs we used to love to dance to back in college and we'd sing it as loud as we could while we danced even though MTV hadn't been invented
yet and we didn't think there was a talent scout in the area - we were just having a blast and we'd basically scream about "mamamamama MYYYY SHARONA" until they made us leave the place - what?
Oh, so that's not it either?  It's Pomona?  What the heck is that?  It must mean "some shade of brown that's very difficult to describe' because that's what you've got right here.  Light grayish brown, sort of mocha, and
it's runing up and down the length of my spine, Pomona.  It's just not the same.
Pomona Suede Hides  $50 each, or 3 hides for $100, or 10 hides for $280; USA shipping included
:

CHOCOLATE SHAKE NUBUCK!

Calf sides that run about 12 sq ft of surface area each, and are 2.5 oz in thickness (about 1/32 of an inch - very thin and soft).  Nice medium brown color looks
exactly like the chocolate shake that Charlie got at the drive through window over at that fast food place, which is why Charlie isn't working this afternoon,
something about cramping I guess.  At any rate, this is a very mellow/soft leather suitable for garments.  Nubuck surface texture is like a very fine suede.
This is nice leather right here, Jethro.
Chocolate Shake sides, $45 each, 50-state shipping included (along with PR)

SUPER SOFT DEER SPLITS

Very soft, very thin deer splits have a texture like suede.  These hides are dyed all the way through, and are a by-product of
the tanning process for top-grain deer leather.  Available in the colors shown; these hides average 5-6 sq ft of surface area,
and will have holes and blemishes, no two ways about it.  Good for many crafts, just right for when you need a thin leather.
Check the drop-down menu for available hides.  We have some smaller hides at lower cost too - they're listed in there for you.
Deer Splits, $20 each, USA shipping included
Smaller splits are priced at 2 for $20, USA shipping included.
We're also selling groups of ten regular size deer splits for $160, and this can be any combination of available colors that you'd like to specify.

Full Cowhide Sides of Brown Suede

Dark Brown                                                                      Cinnamon Brown

These are full cowhide sides of chromium tanned suede split leather - suede on both sides.  Available in Dark Brown or Cinnamon (the lighter shade).
Thickness is 4 to 4.5 oz (1/16").  Very soft leather; mellow temper.  Good for garments.
Sides average about 18 square feet of surface area and are priced at $65 each, USA shipping included.

Pigskin Suede

These pig hides are chromium tanned and are quite thick - this isn't what you'd normally want to use for garments.  It's more like the suede
you'd put on the elbows of one of those Harris Tweed blazers so you'd have the right look when you were smoking your pipe while leaning against the fireplace mantle
underneath the moose head from your legendary hunt up to Second Musquacook.  Our pig suede hides have a very low nap, just barely a suede, and the skins run about 6 sq ft of
surface area, on average.  3.5 to 4 oz, or 1/16 of an inch, or 1.4 - 1.6 mm in thickness.  Available colors are listed in the pull-down menu below.
These pigskins are sold one at a time for $30 each or in groups of 6 for $100 (any color combination you'd like subject to availability - just e-mail us or include a note in the comment box at check-out)

Suede on Spools!

Ever seen a cow that's 100 feet long?  If you answered yes, then it's time to lay off the Screwdrivers, bub.
These spools contain over 100 feet of suede leather, dyed on the surface only, with a nice suede surface.
Available in dark red (you can call it burgundy if you went to a private college).  The strip is about 4-3/8" wide, about 3.5 oz in thickness (1/16"),
and looks like it would work well to wrap around handles or walking sticks, or to re-sole the bottom of your dancing slippers.  50 times.
A spool weighs about 15 pounds.  A lot of leather.  As you might expect, there are seams in the spool, and the seams are glued, not stitched, so they pull apart easily.
If you hoped to use this as mountain climbing rope you can forget it.  This leather sat in a factory for about 20 years, so there's dust and mildew on the outside, but the inside looks good.
Dark Red Suede Spools  $50 per spool, USA shipping included

We unrolled one in the shop - never could get it rolled back up as tight as it was, so now it's just another loosely wrapped employee.

Black Horse Leather Suede Strips

Horse leather is often divided into different parts of the hide, and this part is taken from the hips of the animal.  The top grain has been split off and used for garments;
what's left over are these rather heavy strips that were dyed black and left rough or suede-like.  Great for making collars on a big honkin mountain man coat,
or for a wide sash belt that makes a big statement at Bryant Park.  Black Horse Suede strips are about 5-6 oz in thickness, roughly a foot wide and 4 ft long.
These are $45 each, USA shipping (and the Territories) included.  These are very rustic - rough spots and shaggy areas are standard.

Chrome Suede Splits!   Dance Shoe Splits!
Small Suede Panels for Small Projects

Chrome-tanned cowhide suede split panels, soft and colorfast.
These are partial hides that we call panels; they run about 8-10 inches wide by 10-12 inches long.
Large enough to cover the bottom of a pair of shoes, or a couple of pairs if you're just using this on the heel and toe area.
Thickness is 3 to 4 oz, which is just about 1/16 of an inch.
Good suede leather for dancing shoe soles - available in colors shown in the pull-down menu.
Dance Shoe Suede Splits  $12 each
