In general, orders received by Brettuns Village are packed and shipped within 24-hours of receipt.  We do our best to get your items to you quickly, because we know how you're itching to get them.  Some important shipping information is presented below:

Domestic Shipping Information
Most of the prices you'll find on our website include shipping costs for any location within the 48 contiguous states.  If you need your order shipped to Alaska or Hawaii please contact us by e-mail, give us a list of the items you'd like to buy, and we'll weigh it up and let you know the extra shipping costs.  Brettuns Village doesn't charge handling fees or any of that rubbish - just the actual shipping charge.  We ship to AK and HI via the US Postal Service, Priority Mail only.

If you want your order shipped to any location in the 48 contiguous states, then the prices shown on the site are all you pay.  No additional shipping, handling, packing, processing, or other fees will be added.

International Shipping Information
Brettuns Village is glad to ship your order outside of the USA.  We ship most international orders through the US Postal Service.  Smaller orders, meaning most orders with a total shipping weight of under 1 pound, are shipped by First Class International Mail in padded envelopes for about US$1 to US$8 more than the order total.  In many cases, for orders weighing only a few ounces (such as a key, a few parts, etc), we're able to ship outside of the USA at no additional cost to you - it depends on package weight and your location.  This is a very simple shipping technique for smaller international orders, and usually arrives at your location within one week.  Larger orders are also shipped via the US Postal Service, up to the maximum size they allow.  Most of our refinished trunks are too large to ship through the post office, so these are shipped out of the country with a commercial carrier, such as UPS or FEDEX.  Trunk shipping can be very expensive, up to US$600 per trunk.  Smaller trunks, falling beneath the Postal Service's size constraints, are better suited to international shipping.

We deduct domestic shipping costs from international shipping fees, as our website prices include shipping within the contiguous USA.  Prices are in US dollars.  You may incur duties or other fees on the importation of our products into your country, and any and all fees associated with a shipment from Brettuns Village will be your responsibility.  The quoted shipping fees will include insurance which will protect against loss while the package is within the USA.  Once it crosses into your country, if it is lost, we are not always able to recover the cost of the loss.  Brettuns Village will produce the necessary shipment documents to get the parcel cleared through your customs service, and all merchandise included in the shipment will be declared at the exact retail price.  All goods are classified as 'merchandise' only; we will not claim that purchased items are commercial samples, so please don't ask us to risk our livelihood and business to help you lie to your own government.

So, if you live outside of the USA and would like to order, please go right ahead and place your order using the shopping cart system on the site.  We'll pack the order, then send you an invoice for any additional postage that's required.  The invoice shows up as an e-mail and allows you to pay with either your credit card or a PayPal account.  It's easy!

APO Shipping Information
Brettuns Village is proud to ship to our customers who are stationed overseas.  We figure it's the least we can do to support you, while you're out there supporting/protecting us.  We do not charge any additional fees whatsoever for APO shipping.  As far as we're concerned it's as if you were right down the street, so the prices shown on our site include all the shipping charges you need to worry about.  The price you see is the price you pay.  We take care of the Customs documents and that's that.  Keep in mind that these orders are shipped via the US Postal Service, so some size constraints exist.  For example, most of our antique trunks are too large.  No problem; let us know which one you want and we'll store it for you until you arrive safely back home, no extra charge.

Overnight, Second Day, or Three-Day Select Shipping
If you need your order quickly, we're glad to help get it to you pronto.  Prices on our website include shipping costs for standard ground shipping methods, so we just ask that you pay the difference between standard rates and whatever method you choose.  We ship from zip code 04212 using UPS; if you'd like to estimate what the additional costs would be you can e-mail us or visit the UPS website and punch in our zip code and yours, and an estimated shipping weight.  Don't forget to add about 2 pounds for the box and shipping materials for most leather orders, or about a pound for smaller orders.  Our daily UPS pick-up occurs at about 2:30 pm EST, so if you need fast shippng please let us know by no later than 2:00 pm EST.  If you miss the daily pick-up, we can still have one of the Barn Monkeys drive your package to the nearest UPS depot (cut off time is 5:30 pm EST for this), but we charge a $20 fee which helps cover about half the gas that old truck requires to make the trip.

A Few Words About Boxes
Brettuns Village has a corporate environmental policy that's pretty detailed, and it includes things like not buying or selling leather that contains Azo dyes or other harmful chemicals, not disposing of any chrome-tanned leather by a method that would cause it to be incinerated (this does weird things to the chrome), and trying to use recycled shipping boxes whenever possible.  We buy used boxes from the local Girl Scouts (cookie boxes, of course), retailers in central Maine, and from a not-for-profit that helps individuals with certain handicaps go to work everyday doing something productive.  As a result, you may receive your order in a box that contained spaghetti sauce or notebook paper, antifreeze or t-shirts, Savannahs or Mint cookies, but we try our best to make sure each box is suited to the mission.  We hope you won't mind that the box is on its second life; helps us keep overhead costs down and makes better use of the cardboard.  Also, we ship our leather orders inside boxes - not those brown paper bags.  Helps keep the leather looking snappy while en voyage.

The Barn Monkeys do their best to get all orders packed and shipped quickly.  UPS picks up from our barn Monday through Friday.  We also have a rusty old truck that makes a run to the local post office every weekday, black lab in the passenger seat.
