Pre-Civil War Dome Topped Trunk
This is a round topped spruce
trunk that was probably made right around 1850.
The wood boards were all
sanded and finished with our durable tung oil mixture (which you can read
about in the 'How to Refinish..' section of our website),
and the slats were returned
to their original painted color (tan).
Has our own Made-in-Maine
cowhide harness leather handles for lifting.
Has the original lock but
there is no key for locking.
Measures 30 inches wide
by 18 inches front to back, and stands 25 inches tall.
This trunk has warped itself
over time and so it has one caster on the bottom that is off the floor
when the trunk is empty.
If you store a few heavy
items in it the trunk straightens right out. If you don't store heavy
items in it
the trunk still looks and
works fine, it just wobbles a bit, like one of those tables at the diner
that has matchbooks stuffed under one leg to even it out.
This is a nice old rare
trunk in wonderful condition.
