Wood Dome Top Trunk
from the 1870s



Our best estimate is that this trunk was made in the mid-to-late 1870s.  The hardware has some patent dates from 1877.
Measures 31 by 19 inches and is 24 inches tall, with a beautiful domed top.  Everything has been sanded down and finished with several coats of tung oil.
The hinges were repaired at some point in the history of this trunk - it apperas that heavy duty chest hinges were used as replacements, and
the hinges were installed with small nuts/bolts.  It's an excellent repair job; very sturdy, but we want you to know that the hinges are not original.
Has our Made-in-Maine sticthed leather handles on it - ready for lifting.  A matching leather lid lifter is on the front.

How to Buy a Trunk From This Site
See a trunk you like?  Not sure?  If you'd like to ask questions about one, just send an e-mail stating, "I'm interested in the so-and-so trunk but I have these questions".  We'll do our best to answer your questions as quickly as we can.  Don't want to use PayPal or our online credit card page?  No problem - just drop us an e-mail and let us know you'd like to mail a check or money order for this or that trunk.  We'll remove that trunk from our For Sale page and hold it for you until your payment arrives.

Payment Options

You can send a check or money order, use PayPal, or pay with plastic by calling our toll-free number (1-877-532-8424) with your card number and expiration date.  Once the money is settled, we'll ship your trunk to you by UPS; you check it over when you get it.  If you like it, great, we're all done.  If you don't like it, just send the darned thing right back for a refund.  The return shipping is your expense.  It's a simple method of conducting commerce over the web, but it has worked successfully for us for over a decade.  A note on personal checks - we don't mind them a bit.  We aren't one of those "hold your check for two weeks" joints.  We try to ship as soon as possible.

Shipping costs within the contiguous USA are included in the trunk prices shown on the Brettuns Village web site, unless stated otherwise.  We do our best to play it safe when we ship a trunk to you.  We pack them in cardboard and ship via UPS, usually.  Need your new trunk in two days, or overnight?  No problem, we can ship it express for just a few dollars more.

 
Live outside of the contiguous USA?  When it comes to shipping to Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, or other international locations we do not charge for packing the trunk, and we do not mark up the shipping charge.  We ask only that you pay the actual shipping charge.   Send an e-mail to buy a trunk or ask any questions you have about the trunks shown.  No question is too nit picky.  We want to make sure you get just the trunk you want!
You might want to bookmark this site and check back every so often.  Better yet, why not sign up for our newsletter?  It's free, it arrives in your e-mail every so often, and it's almost completely useless.  Isn't that what spending time on the web is all about anyway?  There's a sign-up box for the letter back on our Home page.  At any rate, trunks come in on a fairly regular basis, and we try to get them posted here as soon as we can get pictures up.
