TRUNK LOCKS

BRETTUNS VILLAGE offers several styles of reproduction trunk locks made with an antique brass, bright brass, or nickel plated finish.
The Antiqur Brass finish is the most popular, because after all, nothing looks more out of place than a shiny new lock on the front of your 150-year-old trunk.
These blend right in. We also carry bright brass and bright nickel plated locks, just in case you need them to make your project look the right way.

Large Trunk Locks
(our most popular trunk locks)

These locks measure 3 and 3/4" by 6 and 5/8" overall, when closed. The top half measures 3 and 3/4" by 3 and 3/4". Requires 7 nails to attach to your trunk.
You can use screws, but that would be a violation of Brettuns Village's "Uncontestable Law of Death Before Use of Screws", a new program we've started
(we come by your place and give you a good razzing for stooping to the use of screws).
These locks come with two keys. This is the most common size and style of trunk lock known to mankind.
This type of lock was used on about 80% of all trunks ever made.

Small Locks

Smaller trunk locks have a spring-loaded latch, so when the trunk isn't locked the top half stays up out of the way. Has a hasp for a padlock, if you choose to use one.
Locks comes with two keys. These smaller locks are available in bright brass or antique brass finish. Overall measurements of the whole unit are 4 and 7/8" by 3 and 3/4."
The top half (latch) measures 4 7/8" by 2 5/8", the bottom half (plate) measures 3 3/4" by 2 7/8". These locks are priced at $10.00, USA shipping included.

NEW OLD STOCK FOOT LOCKER LOCKS
Genuine US Army Issue Locks, Made in the USA by Eagle Lock Co in 1943

Yes, they're green just like most army stuff, but these can be painted any color you'd like to slap on them. Heavy duty solid steel lock with steel tumblers.
Comes complete with the lock, backplate, rivets and burrs for setting (or use our brass or steel nails), and two keys. Still packed in the original boxes from 1943.
An excellent, heavy duty lock. Measurements overall for the complete unit when closed are 6 inches tall by 3.25 inches wide.

NEW OLD STOCK EAGLE BRASS TRUNK LOCKS

Heavy old brass locks made by Eagle in the 1940s, these are original old stock locks, never been used, and come complete with two keys and the rivets/burrs needed to mount them.
You can chuck the rivets and use nails if you want to. These locks measure 6 inches tall by 3.25 inches wide overall. Hard to find, and they sure aren't making any more of them.

Locks for 1800s-era Hide Covered Trunks, Jenny Linds, and Other Old Boxes

These are excellent, museum quality replacement locks made by a modern-day blacksmith here in the USA. This guy made each and every part of these locks by hand.
He even made the nails that come with these locks. We have these available in two sizes in black linseed oil, baked-on finish only.
The surface will not be perfectly smooth - it will show some natural imperfections caused by the oil boiling off. Just like the originals.

The larger locks have a backplate (the rectangular part) that measures 3 and 1/2" by 2 and 1/4",
with nailholes spaced 3" by 2 and 1/4" apart. The large hasp is 3 and 3/4" long overall.
The smaller version has a backplate that's 2 and 5/8" by 2 and 1/16",
with nailholes spaced 2 and 1/4" by 1 and 5/8" apart. The small hasp is 3 and 14" long overall.
Hand-made locks come complete with the lock, hasp, nails, one key, and a template to help you mount the lock properly.
Locks are priced at $75 for the small, $85 for the large, USA postage included in the price.

If You Just Need the Hasp for the Trunk Lid...

A lot of older trunks still have a lock like the ones shown above, but the hasp - the part that swings down from the lid - is missing in action.
We've got these replacements, made by a blacksmith, with a true baked-on linseed oil finish that may show some imperfections, caused by the heating process.
Available in black only. If you'd like plain steel you can remove the finish from these with paint stripper.
Available in two sizes. The larger hasps are about 4" long overall; the smaller ones are about 3" long overall.

If You Just Need the Keyhole Cover - Small or Large

Sold in two sizes (see the locks just up the page a bit) - these keyhole covers are solid cast brass.
The large ones are 2.25" long overall, about 9/16" wide at the widest point, and has a post on the back that's 1/8" in diameter and 7/32" long.
The small ones are 1-11/16" long overall and about 11/16" wide at the widest point, and has a post on the back that's 1/8" in diameter and 7/32" long.
Tap it into the existing hole on your lock. Hand made in the USA.

Keyholes or Escutcheons for Toolboxes or Chests

Cast brass keyholes, which are also known as escutcheons, which is pronounced by sneezing in French, are a nice addition to the front of toolboxes,
chests, or other wooden items, including furniture drawers. These are about 2 and 3/8" wide, mount with two nails, which are included.
