Brettuns Village Trunk Shop
purchased an inventory close-out from a building in NYC that had at one
time been home to a trunk and suitcase manufacturer.
The inventory included several
types of suitcase handles - old stock from the 1930s and 1940s, never been
used, many styles and colors.
These are shown below on
this page. We also sell a variety of leather replacement handles
that can be easily attached to your case or bag. Read on...
So many old suitcases, musical
instrument cases, guitar amplifiers, sewing machine cases, and gladstone
bags have bad handles - they just get worn out over the years.
Here at Brettuns Village
our market analysts decided this was a huge opportunity for us -
so we've tried to corner
the market for replacement suitcase handles. We've sold a few of
these, so it looks like a back-slapping success.
If your old suitcase has
two rings that the handle attached to, and if those rings are spaced anywhere
from 4.5 to 8 inches apart, then you can replace the old handle with one
of the styles we offer here.
All styles are shown in
the colors we have available for sale: tan (undyed), brown, or black.
We don't dye them any other color, but you may choose to dye the tan handles.
Just use leather dye like
the stuff you find at the grocery store on the shoe polish rack.
We have handles that snap
into place, handles that buckle in, and heavy duty handles with spring
steel in them; these also buckle on.
Snap-Handle - Available
in Black or Tan Only This style of handle has
a nickel-plated snap at each end - just snap it onto the existing rings
on your suitcase. Takes exactly 4 seconds too install.
The handle is made from
premium vegetable-tanned leather. The tan handles are undyed,
so you can stain them to match your case if you'd like, or use it the way
it is.
Has leather cords inside,
with the leather wrapped around, so it's pretty sturdy. Fits onto
any suitcase that has two rings, as shown.
The rings need to be somewhere
between 4.5 and 8 inches apart for this handle to fit. Our price
includes postage costs for any USA location.

Handles for Purses, Bags,
Carrying Cases, and Long Stuff Made in response to popular
demand (two people), Brettuns Village now offers these Made-in-Maine leather
purse/bag handles.
Made with a single layer
of USA cowhide, medium brown, folded in half and stitched lengthwise around
a nylon core that prevents stretching
and gives a round shape
to the leather. Single solid brass rivet at each end to protect the
ends of the stitching - this makes a big difference in
how long a handle like this
will last. The leather is 1-5/16" wide before it gets folded/stitched,
and the finished width is 9/16".
Overall length is 25-3/4",
length of the stitched portion (rivet to rivet) is 20". The flat
tab at each end is 1-5/16" wide by about 2" long.
You'll need to have a plan
for how you intend to attach these to your purse, bag, case, nephew, etc.
The intent was for them to be machine
stitched, but you can stitch
them on by hand, or use any combination of glue, rivets, screw posts, etc.
Get creative.
