Our NEW SHIPMENT of Black Oak Crazy Horse is a rustic looking USA cattlehide leather that was chrome tanned and oil finished and waxed on the surface. Has good pull-up (turns lighter when you fold it, darkens again in a few minutes). and a waxy feeling surface to help resist moisture. Sides are above average in size, over 20 sq ft of total surface area. Thickness is 5.75 to 6 oz, which is about 1/10th of an inch, with a rather firm temper. Great for stand-up bags or rifle scabbards. Bottom line? This is a very outdoorsy leather. Good old Crazy Horse.

Another new addition to the line-up here at Brettuns Village Leather: Black Not-So-Softee Textured sides. This is a chromium tanned leather that was very lightly milled, and it has a wonderful surface texture that will remind you that it's real leather every time you look at it. We think. 3 to 3.5 oz in thickness (1.2 to 1.4mm). IMPORTANT: Every one of these has a large brand or hole in the hide; these are tannery sorting rejects that just want to find a new home.
These are NOT soft - they're regular temper!
Black Not-So-Softee Textured Sides, 18-19 sq ft, $80 each; 48-State USA shipping included.
If you've been a customer for a while then you've seen River Mud before. It's the same color as what's stuck to your hip waders when you go duck hunting/bird watching up near Skowhegan
on the Androscoggin River here in Maine. Chromium tanned, 3-3.25 oz thickness, which is just under a sixteenth of an inch, or, for you more worldy types, about 1.2 - 1.3 mm. Nice color, regular temper leather is from USA cattle. Just a slight bit of wax added during milling, so this will resist water to some extent.
River Mud Sides are all LARGER than 20 square feet, and we have them at $85 each; 48-State USA shipping included. If you don't mind that we have to fold the leather we can ship via USPS to any location served by USPS.
OK, so we popped open this shipping pallet right around lunuch time, so the only names we could think up had to do with food. We settled on the best food of all - chocolate. These sides are USA cattlehide, tanned and finished in upstate NY, chromium tanned, vat dyed and then spray finished with the characteristic chocolate color that you see here. This leather feels thick, but it gauges at 5 oz (2.0mm). Regular temper, not terribly soft, but not firm either. Middle of the road.
Heavy Chocolate Sides are all LARGER than 20 square feet, and we have them at $85 each; 48-State USA shipping included. If you don't mind that we have to fold the leather we can ship via USPS to any location served by USPS.
This is our second batch of Quarry Pull Up, which is a nice, stone gray color. We should call this our third batch, because this group has two thicknesses for your consideration. It's rustic and natural looking, but with a bit of sheen/gloss on the surface and boy oh boy is it smooth. Thickness on the thinner sides runs 2.5 ounces, or about 1.0mm. The heavier ones are 4.5 oz (1.8mm). Regular temper; this is not a soft leather. Sure is nice to look at, according to the Boys in the Barn. Quarry Pull-Up Sides, over 20 sq ft, $100 each; 48-State USA shipping included.
A new batch of Mocha Pull Up has arrived! mid-brown color. Rustic leather but smooth surface, so it has a bit of gloss to it. 5 oz thickness (2.0mm). Regular temper; this is not a soft leather. Good old Black Jacket - we've sold this leather since the beginning (1994), and we always like it. Nice texture on the surface, and just soft enough to wear after you've broken it in a bit. Tanned and finished in Brasil, this batch finally found its way upcountry to Maine. Sides run 16-18 sq ft and are priced at just $50 each, with free USA shipping (for locations outside of the 48 contiguous states your leather will be folded to fit in USPS boxes). Most of these have a hole in them somewhere - these are tannery sorting culls. Black Jacket is 2.5 oz thickness (1.0mm). Mellow temper, but it gets more mellow over time. Black Jacket Sides, all of these are in the 16-18 sq ft range; $60 each; USA shipping included. Yes, that means PR, GU, USVI - ships free to you too!

OK so the good news is that we have a couple of hundred of these black and dark brown USA bison sides, all chromium tanned and vat dyed. Bison sides run 4 to 4.5 oz in thickness, milled for hours to soften them into nice garment leather. Very natural looking, struck through, vat dyed in a wicked dark brown color. Garment soft; great for vests and bags. These are typical bison sides, about 16 to 17 sq ft each.
OK so that was the good part. Now for the bad: these sides are rough- Bug bites, scratches, leatherless zones (holes), but each side is over 90% good. Rustic - yeah, that's it. They're rustic. Choose Black or Brown.
Lizard butts. OK, yes, they have them, but that's not what this is. These are USA cattlehide double butts that were embossed with a good lizard skin pattern. 4 oz thickness. These are all larger than 15 sq ft, 4 ounce in thickness, regular temper. These are tannery culls so expect a scratch or two. Sold As-Is.

Indie says... "Don't forget that we have lots of Suede Sides over on the Suede Leathers page!"
Another New Leather for Brettuns Village! A good utility leather: jet black, chromium tanned, super soft garment sides are about as rough as we've ever seen. Holes, scratches, fence marks, mesquite thorn marks, brands, and yet more scratches make this a leather that may not be useful to everyone. On the other hand, if you're going for the 'broken in' or 'worn out' or 'rustic as can be' look then this is your leather right here. Sides run 18-23 sq ft, so we're selling two sizes: Regular sides are under 20 sq ft, Large sides are over 20 sq ft. Regular: $65.00 Large: $75.00, and - well, you probably knew this already - FREE USA shipping. Sold AS-IS; no returns nor refunds on this stuff.
Cherry Red is a color that we all need more of in our lives. Agreed? OK, thank-you. Let's start with your new vest - this is the cherry red lighter weight hide you've been waiting for, just right to finish your ballroom dancing flaming batons matador outfit. Look, we type these things as they pop into our heads around here, just roll with it. This is a 2.75 oz chrome tanned USA cattlehide, 18 sq ft on average, mellow temper, a bit glossy, and each side will have a scratch or blemish somewhere. Work around it. You would've figured that out, probably.
Cherry Red Sides, all around 18 sq ft, $85 each, USA shipping included.
