STANDARD COWHIDE CHROME-TANNED LEATHER SCRAP

STANDARD COWHIDE LEATHER SCRAP - Cowhide pieces are generally from 0.5 to 3.0 square feet of total surface area
(this means 0.5 to 3 times 144 square inches - shapes will be odd, not recangles or squares),
and may include belt strips, long pieces, trimmings, and odd shapes.
Please keep in mind that 3 square feet of leather may mean a piece that's 6" wide by 6 feet long, or some other weird configuration.
This is scrap, so the pieces will vary in color and thickness, but most will be earthtones (shades of tan and brown). Feel free to request any particular color that you need,
we'll do our best to customize your order, subject to availability. Standard scrap is priced per pound, including shipping.
Orders up to 1,000 pounds can be easily accommodated.
Of course, orders of 10 pounds are just as welcome.

Lighter Weight Cowhide Scrap, Looks Like Deer Hide
Available in Earth Tones, Reds, Black, or White

These are good-sized pieces of cowhide side leathers, running about 3.5 to 4.5 oz in thickness. Soft leather has a nice feel, similar to deer hide and tanned to look like deer hide.
This is useful leather for Native American craft projects, anything outdoorsy-looking, and for uses where you don't want the leather to look bright and shiny. This is unfinished leather,
which means it has been chrome-tanned and dyed, but that's it. No finishing oils, no waterproofing treatments, so it's ready for you to do whatever you want with it. The pieces are large for scrap leather.
All pieces will be larger than your hand, and most run about one square foot (by this we mean 144 total square inches of surface area or bigger - not a 12x12 square,
but odd shapes that have a total surface area greater than 144 total square inches). You can purchase black, white, our red mix, which contains a mixtures of red shades, or our earth tone mix, which contains various shades of brown and tan.
Sold in 5-pound or 10-pound boxes; all prices shown below include shipping to any location in the 48 contiguous United States. The picture with the yardstick in it shows 5 pounds of this leather spread out on the table.
You get a lot of square footage with this stuff. Feel free to ask us to mix/match - we're glad to put together any combination of colors you'd like.

Black Chromium-Tanned Suede for Your Dance Shoes!

Black suede split cowhide panels, soft and colorfast.
These are partial hides that we call panels; they average about 2 square feet of surface area.
Each piece is more than enough to do the bottoms of a pair of large men's dance shoes.
If you just do the toe area then you'll be able to re-sole your dancing shoes more than once.

Thin White Tail Deer Hides

These are skivers that were cut from chrome tanned white tail deer hides
This is USA deer leather.
Chrome tanned, dyed white (dye penetrates all the way through the leather),
but they look a little off-white to very light grayish in color.
The leather thickness ranges from 1 to 3 oz (1/64" to a little under 1/16 of an inch).
Very, very soft. How soft? Like an old t-shirt that you can't throw away because
it still has that stain on it from that Kansas concert at the Hollywood Sportatorium. It's special.

Pigskin Suede Leather Scraps

Pig skin suede pieces are from a very good quality running/athletic shoe maker.
Light blue-gray color, with the characteristic surface grain of pigskin.
This us cutting room scrap, smallish pieces from a couple of square inches up to about the size of your hand.
Assuming your hand is the same size, more or less, as Charlie's.
Soft, under 1/16" thick (2.5 to 3.5 oz) and can be sewn on most home sewing machines.

OIL-TANNED BELTING LEATHER SCRAP

Oil-tanned belting leather scrap pieces are good-sized pieces, including some that are up to 1.5 square feet (that means 1.5 times 144 total square inches of surface area).
Some are wide, some are strappy. All are 9/10 oz in thickness, smooth surface. This is a nice quality leather for knife sheaths and accessories that require a stiffer

Dark Green Upholstery Leather Scrap
Big Pieces!

Full finish (glossy) Italian upholstery leather is dark green, about 3 oz in thickness, and comes in fairly large pieces. Sold in five-pound boxes, which is quite a bit of leather at this thickness.

Boot Maker's Cowhide Leather Scraps

Excellent quality weatherproofed cowhide leather was being used here in Maine to make hiking and chore boots.
Medium and dark brown colors, some black every so often. Thickness is 6-7 oz. This stuff smells great - like leather.

This is nice leather that was originally priced by the tannery at pretty close to $5 per square foot. We get the left overs from a belt maker and sell it off in ten pound boxes.
This is chrome tanned calf leather in nice, rich, colors with a patent finish. 3.5 oz thickness, a little under 1/16 of an inch. Pieces are often long straps, with some rectangles and other odd shapes.
Pieces range in size from 0.5 square feet to 8 sq ft. A ten pound box is priced at $40, with free shipping for our USA customers in the 48 contiguous states.

Veg-Tanned Harness Leather Scrap, Oxblood Color
Small Pieces at Low Cost

This is nice leather that was originally priced by the tannery at pretty close to $7 per square foot.
We get the left overs from a harness maker and sell it off in by the pound.
This is vegetable-tanned leather in oxblood (dark maroon-ish). Has had a bit of oil added to keep it water resistant and pliable.
Gauges out at 6 to 8 oz, some are a little thicker. Pieces are mostly straps or squarish, with some rectangles and other odd shapes.
All pieces are half the size of your hand or smaller, down to pieces that are only 1/2" by 2" or so.

These pieces are small - in general most are smaller than the palm of your hand, but they're clean and good for small projects, practicing, craft groups, etc.

STRAPPY SCRAP

What we're selling by the pound here is left over harness/rein pieces that were trimmed in production. We call it 'Strappy Scrap' - what else would we call it? It's mostly all
strap-shaped pieces, ranging from about a half an inch to an inch wide, 3 to 6 inches in length, tan or oxblood color only; random selection. It's all veg tanned, some is retanned (latigo), some is oiled to make it waterproof.
Thickness ranges from 8 oz (1/8") to 15/16 oz (almost 1/4"). Priced by the pound, with free USA shipping for all the prices shown below.

SOLE BEND SKELETONS

Thick veg tan leather is about 1/4" thick and is very, very firm. Used for making shoe soles, what you're buying here are the skeletons left over
after the soles are cut out. Each 'sheet' weighs a couple of pounds; you get about 4 or 5 of these in a ten pound box for $50 flat, delivered to your door,
as long as your door is someplace in the 48 contiguous United States. This is a very firm leather that's almost 1/4 of an inch thick.

CLICKER SCRAP
Smaller Pieces, Priced Low, Great for a Variety of Uses

These are full cowhide sides and butt sections that have been cut for shoe or accessory production using a clicker press. So what's left over are these leather pieces.
We call it Clicker Scrap, but some folks know it as shoe scrap, cookie-cutter scrap, or just plain 'Bones.' Clicker scrap is all chrome-tanned cowhide, dyed various colors, usually browns, tans, and blacks,
and is sold in ten pound boxes for $35, delivered. Some potential uses include the making of small leather goods (took us a long time to come up with that one), placing it under your car
seats so you get that new leather smell again (I kid you not - you'd be impressed with how much leather we sell each year for just this purpose), or for those nifty knife demonstrations
where you need to impress the audience with how your kitchen knife stays sharp even after it's been used to saw a tuna fish can in half,
which is weird because how many times in your life have you felt the need to cut a can in half, anyway?

Small Swatches

Small leather swatches measure about 2.75" by 5" and have a hole punched in one corner so that they can be strung together or put on a key ring.
Each swatch is imprinted with the tannery's color and leather variety name. These run about 4 to 5 oz in thickness, and we sell them in a mixture of colors
(or e-mail us a note when you order if you'd like to request a specific color using the photos above as a guide). Some are full finish (very smooth). Most are rustic finishes or nubucks.

High Quality Bedspread Fabric Remnants

This high-quality bedspread fabric is woven in Lewiston, Maine under the Bates of Maine label, known for over a hundred years as
a maker of fine bedspreads and fabrics. These are trimmings from along the edges of spreads, removed to cut down the fabric to fit queen, full, or twin size beds.
Woven on looms that are almost 100 years old, with incredible atention to detail and design. Made from 100% cotton, various shades of white, off-white, gold tones, etc, mostly in lighter shades.
We sell these remnants by the pound. Great for trim work, making mini skirts, wrapping around your head, etc.

Sheep Shearling Scraps

This is excellent quality sheep shearling, with a nicely finished leather side, and the hair side cropped to 1/2".
It's fluffy, it's hairy. and it's very soft. Good for trimming small items. Lots of pieces per pound, but none of them are much
bigger than your hand.

Suede Leather Scraps

Nice, soft suede cowhide pieces were being cut to make pieced-together pillows.
What you get in a box of this scrap is a variety of colors, mostly earth-tones, and the pieces aren't terribly large.
Odd geometric shapes, some long like straps, some partial hides left uncut because of brands or defects.
Good leather for lining boxes or making doll items. Very soft, under 1/16" thick (2.5 to 3.5 oz) and can be sewn on most home sewing machines.
This leather has sat around for a long time and smells musty. We ran some through the clothes drier and it seemed to help a lot.
