Setter/Splash Tool
Rivet Setting Tool
for use with post rivets or tubular rivets (not for use with brass
two-part rapid rivets - scroll down a bit for that tool). Punch a
hole in the leather, put the post rivet through, put the pin end of this
tool in the throat of the rivet, give it a good whack with the mallet,
and the end of the rivet splits into six flower petal sort of things, holds
the leather quite well. These setting tools are hardened steel and
have a long life span - to make them last you MUST use a nylon or rawhide
mallet - NEVER USE A STEEL HAMMER - and a cutting board/pounding pad.

your rapid or two-part rivets. Set the tool over the rivet cap, tap
it with your mallet, and you, Mrs. Efficiency, are finished.

Setters
Small or Large
Eyelet setters are very
easy to use. Punch a hole in the leather or fabric, stick the eyelet
in, turn upside down (the leather, not you, although you could probably
still set it that way, but then again your face would be all red and you'd
have to try to explain just what you were doing upside down with a mallet
in one hand so just forget about it), set this tool in the tube of the
eyelet, and tap it. Small setter is about 3" long and 1/4" in diameter
and is used for setting most standard 3/16" eyelets Like our brass, antique
brass, and hexagonal eyelets over in the Hardware section). The larger
setter is 4-1/4" long and 3/8" in diameter, used for setting larger, 1/4"
ID eyelets or grommets.

humid or too dry? Well, don't let that same thing happen to your
rivets or eyelets. If you set rivets/eyelets with a rounded surface
by tapping them on a flat surface, well, it's a bad hair day in Rivet Land.
If you use this little concave thing then your hair looks fuller.
Or your eyelets stay rounded. You'll see once you try it. Very
useful. It's only about 3/4 of an inch in diameter, maybe 1/4" tall.

Each punch is machined from
quality hardened tool steel by skilled Maine craftsmen. Punches are
designed with a tapered clearance so that punchings clear freely from the
tool; it won't clog up.
These high-quality punches
are used to punch holes in materials such as leather, rubber, carpeting,
cork, paper, canvas, plastic, pastry (yum!), cloth, styrofoam, felt, balsa
wood, and even soft, thin metals such as copper or lead. Great for
cutting holes or making gaskets or washers. These punches meet or

These pounding boards are
1/2" thick and are made of a special variety of dense plastic. They
absorb the shock of pounding on your tools, and protect the cutting edges
of the tools at the same time. We have two sizes available - Large

boards are 18" by 24" and weigh almost seven pounds each. Great for

for their high quality tools. This is their split-head design, which
allows you to swap out worn rawhide striking faces when you feel like it.
Just loosen the nut under the hammer head, swap out the faces, and get
back to work. Hickory handle will take a lot of whacking, but can
be replaced if you overdo it there, Hercules. This is Garland's #1
size hammer, with striking face diameter of 1.25" and an overall weight

Rawhide Mallets
Made by Garland Manufacturing
Co. right here in Maine, these rawhide mallets are made with prime-grade
water buffalo hides that have been seasoned, rolled, resin-filled, and
compressed under extreme pressure to ensure a consistently tough impact
and remain non-marring. Great for use with leather crafting tools,
and made with strong hickory handles. We sell these in three sizes:
6 oz, 9 oz, and 11 oz. The small ones, at 6 oz weight, have a face
diameter of 1.5 inches. Face diameter on the medium mallets is 1.75".
The large one has a 2" diameter. Prices include shipping to any USA

Plastic Head Mallets
Made in Maine by Garland
Manufacturing Co., these plastic head mallets are made with Garland's own
'Gar-Dur' UHMW Polyethylene plastic. It's non-porous, very durable,
and will not mar most surfaces. Works well with leather craft tools
and costs a little less than a rawhide mallet. We sell these in two
sizes - large and small. The large Gar-Dur mallet weighs 9 oz and
has a head diameter of 1.75". The large one weighs 14 oz with a face

Scratch Awl
A good scratch awl is handy
for pushing holes into your leather (so that you can hand stitch more easily),
but it's also useful for making starter holes for wood screws, chipping
ice blocks off the front steps, or aerating the lawn. This is a high
quality awl, hefty, and will help you make many holes over time.
Length overall is 6.25 inches. The exposed part of the metal shaft
is 4" long, but the shaft also extends up into the handle about an inch.
