Branding Iron For your veg tan leathers
this is a nice tool - it's essentially a wood burner that's set to the
right temperature range for leather.
Comes with a chisel point
so you can try to create a better looking blue marlin than Charlie did,
and the point unscrews
so you can put in one of
the other 5 points that come with the iron: heart, square, star,
circle, and diamond.
You can see how the star
shape branded into the leather in the bottom left picture.
Brander also comes with
a folding stand and it has a handy on/off switch in the cord.
Heats up to working temp
in about 5 minutes.
Use caution - this thing
will burn you. Extra brands available below

Get a set of 8 additional
holiday-themed spot brands:
These screw right into the
branding iron.
Heart, star, tree, flag,
basket, flower, pumpkin, and a balloon that you can also use as a turkey
leg
because almost all leather
projects need a good turkey drumstick branded into them.
$6 per set, USA postage
included
Tubular
Rivet Setter/Splash Tool Rivet Setting Tool
for use with post rivets or tubular rivets (not for use with brass
two-part rapid rivets - scroll down a bit for that tool).
Punch a hole in the leather,
put the post rivet through, put the pin end of this tool in the throat
of the rivet, give it a good whack with the mallet, and the
end of the rivet splits
into six flower petal sort of things, holds the leather quite well.
These setting tools are hardened steel and have a long life span -
to make them last you MUST
use a nylon or rawhide mallet - NEVER USE A STEEL HAMMER - and a cutting
board/pounding pad. $15 each, USA shipping included.

stays rounded also.

How to use this tool:
Punch holes in your leather, poke the rivet through. Put a burr (normal
folks call this a washer) on the end, then put the hollow tube portion
of the tool
over the tip of the rivet,
and pound it a couple of times with your rawhide or synthetic mallet to
drive the washer down until tight.
Cut off excess rivet with
some wire cutters, then place tool dimple over the rivet end and pound
it a few more times.
Now, sit back and take a
sip of that raspberry porter you mixed up back in late July when the berries
were practically walking into the kitchen on their own.
Eyelet
Setters Eyelet setters are very
easy to use. Punch a hole in the leather or fabric, stick the eyelet
in, turn upside down (the leather, not you,
although you could probably
still set it that way, but then again your face would be all red and you'd
have to try to explain
just what you were doing
upside down with a mallet in one hand so just forget about it), set one
of these tools in the tube of the eyelet, and tap it.
Brettuns Village Eyelet
Setters
Made right here in Lewiston,
Maine, these setters are 4-3/16" long and 9/16" in diameter.
The small one is for setting
most standard 3/16" eyelets,
like our brass, antique
brass, and hexagonal eyelets over in the Hardware section.
The larger setter is used
for setting larger, 1/4" ID eyelets or grommets.

How About a Brettuns
Village Tool Combo? It's your money. Do
with it what you want. Go ahead, throw it away on those cheesy tools
from across the Pacific. Just buy a new set every year or so and
you should be able to get the job done.
Never mind that every so
often when you use one of those crummy tools there's a slight spark from
the tip as a piece of the metal flies off, and it hits the cat right in
the left eye, so the
cat takes off hoo-rady-cut-to-bingo
through the farm house, into the summer kitchen, and right across the gas
stove where the flame was just getting to that nice blue color that would
steam your canning jars.
Now the cat's on fire and
it heads for the living room, so there go the drapes, and that means the
ceiling beams are next, and it's the weekend of the Firemen's Fund Raiser,
so those guys are all
up at the intersection in
town, going up to car windows with a smelly old boot, begging for change,
so it'll be a while before they arrive. You're homeless and have
lost all of your possessions, except for the cat,
who made it out safely,
of course. You and your cheap tools. Sheesh. To make
matters worse you decide it'll be fun to change the cat's name to Smokey.
Get a grip, man.
Here's a set of our three
setting tools, made right here in Maine, and made to last. You'll
pass these down to your heirs.
This set of three tools
includes our splash tool for tubular rivets, a large eyelet/small grommet
setter, and a regular eyelet setter.

combo set. Price includes shipping to any USA location.

Anvils
for Setting Double Cap Rivets Remember that year you worked
in Houston after college, and how the secretaries in that huge office building
would complain about their hair going flat on days that were either too
humid or too dry?
Well, don't let that same
thing happen to your rivets or eyelets. If you set rivets/eyelets
with a rounded surface by tapping them on a flat surface, well, it's a
bad hair day in Rivet Land.
If you use this little concave
thing then your hair looks fuller. Or your eyelets stay rounded.
You'll see once you try
it. Very useful. It's only about 3/4 of an inch in diameter,
maybe 1/4" tall.
Please keep in mind that
if the base of your rivet (the post end) is flat on the bottom then you
just flat out don't need this anvil thingamabob - yuou just need a flat
surface, like the garage floor.

Thonging
Chisel This is our own thonging
chisel, made for us right here in Maine. Useful for making stitching
holes that are all lined up, and it's quite a time saver too.
Cuts three slits at once;
each slit is 3/32" long, and the slits are also separated by 3/32".
Tool cutting area is, well, let's see here, 3/32 plus 3/32 plus 3/32
plus 3/32 plus 3/32 = 15/32
of an inch, or just under a half inch. Use a synthetic cutting or
pounding board underneath, and only strike this with a poly or rawhide
mallet.
Overall tool length is 4-1/4";
handle is 9/16" in diameter, which means it feels pretty sturdy.

Hand
Sewing Needles Set of 7 imported needles
for hand stitching. The Glover's needle has a chiseled point that
can make it's own hole in the leather if you push a bit; the others work
best if you
pre-punch using our rotary
punch above or our scratch awl shown below. Let us translate that
last sentence into plain English for you - these needles may bend if you
don't punch the holes first.
Priced at $4, which includes postage to any USA location.
These work great with our
waxed hand sewing thread (which you can find on the Thread page, conveniently).

Scratch Awl A good scratch awl is handy
for pushing holes into your leather (so that you can hand stitch more easily),
but it's also useful for making starter holes for wood screws,
chipping ice blocks off
the front steps, or aerating the lawn. This is a high quality awl,
hefty, and will help you make many holes over time. Length overall
is 6.25 inches.
The exposed part of the
metal shaft is 4" long, but the shaft also extends up into the handle about
an inch.
We lucked into a bumper
crop of these. Price includes USA postage.
Awl - $10 each

Utility
Knife Extraordinaire! This is a high-quality utility
knife that we love using because it's so easy to change the blades.
The knife has a twisty-dial-thing on the side, so when the blade is dull
you
don't have to go looking
for a screwdriver. Has a compartment inside to store spare blades,
and a rubberized grip for, well, traction I guess. It sure is easy
to hang onto,
even in a Maine snowstorm.
The knife comes with only one blade. Uses standard razor blades you
can get at any hardware store.
Made in the USA by Techni-Edge,
and made to last.

and maybe another one after
that, and then that'll be about it.
Plastic handles, good cutting
blades that cut fringe or just straight lines in leather up to 12 oz in
thickness.
We feel you'll get your
money's worth out of them.
Craft Scissors $10,

a surface that's liike sandpaper, but the sponge is easy to grip and lasts

sponges - all are rectangles that measure about 4" by 2.75" by 1" (two
are 100 grit for rough sanding, the third is 220 grit for finer finishing),
Sold as a package - three
