Leather Branding Iron

For your veg tan leathers this is a nice tool - it's essentially a wood burner that's set to the right temperature range for leather.
Comes with a chisel point so you can try to create a better looking blue marlin than Charlie did, and the point unscrews
so you can put in one of the other 5 points that come with the iron:  heart, square, star, circle, and diamond.
You can see how the star shape branded into the leather in the bottom left picture.
Brander also comes with a folding stand and it has a handy on/off switch in the cord.
Heats up to working temp in about 5 minutes.
Use caution - this thing will burn you.  Extra brands available below
Leather Branding Iron with 6 tips  $18, USA postage included

Get a set of 8 additional holiday-themed spot brands:

These screw right into the branding iron.
Heart, star, tree, flag, basket, flower, pumpkin, and a balloon that you can also use as a turkey leg
because almost all leather projects need a good turkey drumstick branded into them.
$6 per set, USA postage included

Tubular Rivet Setter/Splash Tool

Rivet Setting Tool for use with post rivets or tubular rivets  (not for use with brass two-part rapid rivets - scroll down a bit for that tool).
Punch a hole in the leather, put the post rivet through, put the pin end of this tool in the throat of the rivet, give it a good whack with the mallet, and the
end of the rivet splits into six flower petal sort of things, holds the leather quite well.  These setting tools are hardened steel and have a long life span -
to make them last you MUST use a nylon or rawhide mallet - NEVER USE A STEEL HAMMER - and a cutting board/pounding pad.  $15 each, USA shipping included.

El Cheapo Rapid Rivet Setter

A very simple tool for setting your rapid or two-part rivets.  Set the tool over the rivet cap, tap it with your mallet, and you, Mrs. Efficiency, are finished.
This little gem is about 3 inches long and 3/8" in diameter.  It's cheap, but it works.  Make sure you get a small anvil (below) so that the other
end of your double-headed rivet stays rounded also.
Rapid Rivet Setter  $6.50 USA postage included

Brettuns Village Rapid Rivet Setter

Made to last a lifetime, the Brettuns Village Rapid Rivet Setter is 4-1/4" long and 1/2" in diameter through the handle,
with the tip narrowing to just a hair over 3/8" in diameter.  Concave head fits over your rivet cap, then tap it once or twice to set it.
Make sure you get a small anvil (below) so that the other end of your double-headed rivet stays rounded also.
Brettuns Village Rapid Rivet Setter  RS-0304  $15.00 USA postage included

Brettuns Village Copper Rivet Setter

Made to last a lifetime, the Brettuns Village Copper Rivet Setter is 4-1/4" long and 1/2" in diameter through the handle.
The head is 1" in diameter.
Brettuns Village Copper Rivet Setter  RS-0303  $15.00 USA postage included

How to use this tool:  Punch holes in your leather, poke the rivet through.  Put a washer on the end, then put the hollow tube portion of the tool
over the tip of the rivet, and pound it a couple of times with your rawhide or synthetic mallet to drive the washer down until tight.
Cut off excess rivet with some wire cutters, then place tool dimple over the rivet end and pound it a few more times.
Now, sit back and take a sip of that raspberry porter you mixed up back in late July when the berries were practically walking into the kitchen on their own.

Eyelet Setters
Eyelet setters are very easy to use.  Punch a hole in the leather or fabric, stick the eyelet in, turn upside down (the leather, not you,
although you could probably still set it that way, but then again your face would be all red and you'd have to try to explain
just what you were doing upside down with a mallet in one hand so just forget about it), set one of these tools in the tube of the eyelet, and tap it.
We sell them in two grades - El Cheapo and Brettuns Village Premier Supreme Excellente Grande Del Fuego:

The Cheap Kind

El Cheapo Large Eyelet Setters
Small setter is about 3" long and 1/4" in diameter and is used for setting most standard 3/16" eyelets,
like our brass, antique brass, and hexagonal eyelets over in the Hardware section.
The larger setter is 4-1/4" long and 3/8" in diameter, used for setting larger, 1/4" ID eyelets or grommets.
Low Grade Large Eyelet Setter  $7.00  USA postage included

If you'd like your eyelet setter to last a few decades so you can pass it on down to your grandkids so they can find it during that big yard sale,
hunch their shoulders and scratch their heads and wonder what on earth this thing is for - it might be a, no, well forget it.
Just chuck it in the box that's marked 'tools, 25 cents each' and forget about it, then you should invest heavily in these eyelet setters:
The Good Ones

Made right here in Lewiston, Maine, these setters are 4-3/16" long and 9/16" in diameter.
The small one is for setting most standard 3/16" eyelets,
like our brass, antique brass, and hexagonal eyelets over in the Hardware section.
The larger setter is used for setting larger, 1/4" ID eyelets or grommets.
Brettuns Village Small Eyelet Setter  $15.00  USA postage included

How About a Brettuns Village Tool Combo?

It's your money.  Do with it what you want.  Go ahead, throw it away on those cheesy tools from across the Pacific.  Just buy a new set every year or so and you should be able to get the job done.
Never mind that every so often when you use one of those crummy tools there's a slight spark from the tip as a piece of the metal flies off, and it hits the cat right in the left eye, so the
cat takes off hoo-rady-cut-to-bingo through the farm house, into the summer kitchen, and right across the gas stove where the flame was just getting to that nice blue color that would steam your canning jars.
Now the cat's on fire and it heads for the living room, so there go the drapes, and that means the ceiling beams are next, and it's the weekend of the Firemen's Fund Raiser, so those guys are all
up at the intersection in town, going up to car windows with a smelly old boot, begging for change, so it'll be a while before they arrive.  You're homeless and have lost all of your possessions, except for the cat,
who made it out safely, of course.  You and your cheap tools.  Sheesh.  To make matters worse you decide it'll be fun to change the cat's name to Smokey.  Get a grip, man.

Here's a set of our three setting tools, made right here in Maine, and made to last.  You'll pass these down to your heirs.
This set of three tools includes our splash tool for tubular rivets, a large eyelet/small grommet setter, and a regular eyelet setter.

Anvils for Setting Rivets or Eyelets

Remember that year you worked in Houston after college, and how the secretaries in that huge office building would complain about their hair going flat on days that were either too humid or too dry?
Well, don't let that same thing happen to your rivets or eyelets.  If you set rivets/eyelets with a rounded surface by tapping them on a flat surface, well, it's a bad hair day in Rivet Land.
If you use this little concave thing then your hair looks fuller.  Or your eyelets stay rounded.
You'll see once you try it.  Very useful.  It's only about 3/4 of an inch in diameter, maybe 1/4" tall.

Anvil  $4.00  USA postage included

Grommet Setters

Got grommets to set in your tent canvas or latest leather craft project?  Use this anvil and setter combo to get the job done.

Excellent Quality Professional Tools
Made in Maine!  Available in Standard or Metric Sizes!
Punches, Strap End Punches, Gasket Cutters, Leather Craft Tools and Tool Sets

These tools are made in Maine by O'Brien Consolidated Industries, Inc., a respected name in the world of leather crafting tools.  All cutters are hand-sharpened and polished, ready for use.
All of these punches are meant to be used with a rawhide or synthetic mallet only - do not use a regular steel hammer with these.  Best to use a cutting pad beneath the leather - we sell those too - just scroll down the page.

Each punch is machined from quality hardened tool steel by skilled Maine craftsmen.
Punches are designed with a tapered clearance so that punchings clear freely from the tool; it won't clog up.

These high-quality punches are used to punch holes in materials such as leather, rubber, carpeting, cork, paper, canvas, plastic, pastry (yum!), cloth, styrofoam, felt, balsa wood,
and even soft, thin metals such as copper or lead.  Great for cutting holes or making gaskets or washers.  These punches meet or exceed all U.S. Government specifications and
tolerances and are available in the wide range of sizes shown below.  Custom sizes are also available; just send us an e-mail to inquire.
And, of course, the best part is that these are all Made in Maine.

pretzel under pressure, so punch the holes first.  Priced at $4, which includes postage to any USA location.

used on the package insert.

Utility Knife Extraordinaire!

This is a high-quality utility knife that we love using because it's so easy to change the blades.  The knife has a twisty-dial-thing on the side, so when the blade is dull you
don't have to go looking for a screwdriver.  Has a compartment inside to store spare blades, and a rubberized grip for, well, traction I guess.  It sure is easy to hang onto,
even in a Maine snowstorm.  The knife comes with only one blade, so we include a back-up package of ten spare blades that fit perfectly.
Made in the USA by Techni-Edge, and made to last.

SCISSORS FOR CRAFT PROJECTS

If you're looking for heirloom quality shears that will cut through leather like mad dogs, well, these aren't them.
What these are, Chester, are what we call project scissors.  They'll get you through this current project you're working on,
and maybe another one after that, and then that'll be about it.
Plastic handles, good cutting blades that cut fringe or just straight lines in leather up to 12 oz in thickness.
We feel you'll get your money's worth out of them.
Craft Scissors  $10, USA shipping included.

Sanding Sponges Make Life Easier

These sanding sponges have a surface that's liike sandpaper, but the sponge is easy to grip and lasts a long, long time.  We like these much better than regular sandpaper.
Our package contains three sponges - two rectangles that measure about 4" by 2.75" by 1" (one is 100 grit for rough sanding, the other is 220 grit for finer finishing),
and an angled sponge that's 4-7/8" by 2-7/8" by 1" and is 120 grit - all three are handy when working on a variety of projects involving wood, leather, or metal.  S
old as a package - one of each of the three sponges in each pack.
Price includes USA postage

a thing with a long needle on the end which is for poking holes in leather to make your stitching go a little easier, some pliers with insulated handles to help you
stretch the leather (OK, according to Excellent Customer Larry, the pliers are actually made for twisting wire aroundthem to make small loops, and thanks, Larry, for pointing that out),
